Reliability of Functional Balance Assessment Tests in Children aged 7-10 and its Correlation with Selected Anthropometric Parameters
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: The present study evaluates reliability of functional balance assessment tests in children aged 7-10 and its correlation with selected anthropometric parameters. Methodology: Population of the study includes 80 students aged 7-10 (40 female and 40 male). The Sharpened Romberg Test was used for static balance, while timed up and go test, Tandem walk test, and Y test were used for dynamic balance. To measure the selected anthropometric factors, height, Upper body length, lower body length, Foot length and body mass were used. Reliability was determined using ICC, and Pearson correlation was used for the relations between balance assessment test and selected anthropometric parameters at significance level of P≥0.05. Results: Static assessment tests were not reliable, but dynamic tests were reliable. No significant correlation was found between anthropometric parameters with static and dynamic tests p>0.05. However, there was a significant correlation between lower trunk length and Y test (p= 0.01, r= 0.53). Conclusion: Considering the fact that balance sensory system in children aged 7-10 grows, static balance test that requires weighing the system with eyes open and closed is not a reliable measure. Thus, dynamic balance tests, particularly Y test, show better performance for children at this age range.

Reliability Assessment of Functional Balance Tests in Endomorph Healthy Women 24-34 years old
Introduction and Purpose: Due to the importance of functional balance tests assessment with emphasis on parameters influencing the balance including somatotype, this study undertaken to determine the reliability of functional balance tests (static, semi-dynamic and dynamic) in endomorphe healthy women within 24-34 years old. Methodology: 25 female endomorphe with the average and standard dev...

Purpose: To assess the reliability of neurocognitive and functional performance tests in athletes with and without functional ankle instability (FAI). Methods: In this methodological study, 20 athletes with unilateral functional ankle instability (mean age [SD]: 23.40[2.58] y; mean height[SD]: 1.77[0.11] m; mean weight[SD]: 67.00[13.18] kg) and 20 uninjured athletes (mean age[SD]: 23.05[2.72] ...
full textCorrelation of anthropometric parameters with QTc interval in malnourished children.
Various studies have reported the effect of severe malnutrition on electrolyte levels and electrocardiographic parameters. However, only a few have reported these findings in mild and moderate grades of malnutrition in children. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the effect of malnutrition (mainly mild and moderate grades) on corrected QT interval (QTc) and QT dispersion (QTcd...
full textContent Validity and Reliability of the Persian Version of School Function Assessment in Children With Cerebral Palsy Aged 7-12 Years
Objective: Cerebral Palsy is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Due to the increase in the number of students with Cerebral Palsy (CP) entering ordinary schools and facing problems with independent functioning, there is a need for a valid and comprehensive assessment tool for their successful entry as well as providing a proper treatment plan. The School Function A...

Background and Objectives: Evidence suggests that children's dietary preferences may be related to the type of feeding in the first year of life. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between breastfeeding and dietary patterns in children aged 7 to 10 years. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in 388 children (aged 7-10 years), who were recruited ...
full textThe Effect of using Wii balance board on functional balance in children with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy
Abstract Objective: Ataxic cerebral palsy has an incidence of 5- 10 percent among the general population of children with cerebral palsy. It is characterized by poor balance and coordination, in addition to clumsiness, involuntary tremor and poorly developed equilibrium responses. As a result, balance training is one of the most important parts of the rehabilitation program in children with At...
